29 Decodable CVC, CCVC & CVCC Home Reading Books with Stage 1 & 2 phonic concepts with increased length and HFW’s
Decodable readers present text that can be read using the decoding skills students have acquired. In the context of reading, students are then able to practice the phonic concepts that have been taught explicitly and systematically. For age-appropriate students, PLD’s Year 1 & 2 Teaching Sequence recommends decodable reading books continue during Semester 1 & 2. Decodable readers typically should be viewed as a short-term resource, until students develop fluency and word attack skills.
The 29 modern and engaging decodable reading books in this set have been hand-picked by Diana Rigg to align with the PLD’s evidence-based Structured Synthetic Phonics program. These take home readers have been specifically selected and organised into sets for Semester 1, however, the books can also be presented to older students who are slow to progress.
Allocating, Tracking & Sorting PLD Decodable Reading Books
Research repeatedly reports that the gains are greatest from the initial years of schooling when students are first learning to read. In terms of allocating reading books, completing the 3 minute Early Reading Profile screen, within PLD’s Year 1 & 2 Screening and Tracking Manual is recommended.
The books are supplied with identification labels to assist with storage and organisation. The books, which are available only in sets and cannot be purchased as individual copies, are a cost-effective option for schools to modernise their early reading material and achieve a positive start to reading for the students in their care. This set of decodable reading books is mentioned in the Year 1 & 2 Teaching Sequence Manual.
