A screen of comprehension ability.

The Comprehension Questions screens can be used to assess a child’s progress with the comprehension programs or to allow for identification of areas of weakness that require support.

They are:

  • Designed by Speech Pathologists.
  • Designed for use in the home or within schools.
  • A time efficient screen focusing on questions a child of that age would be expected to answer without difficulty.
    • 3 year old Comprehension Screen – focuses on Blank level 1 and 2 questions.
    • 4 year old Comprehension Screen – focuses on Blank level 2 and 3 questions.
    • 5 year old Comprehension Screen – focuses on Blank level 3 and 4 questions.
    • 6-7 year old Comprehension Screen – focuses on predictive, interpretive and evaluative questions.
    • 8-9 year old Comprehension Screen – focuses on literal, reorganisation, inferential, evaluation and appreciation questions.
Included:
  • Clear instructions for the adult who is administering the screen.
  • 3, 4, 5 and 6-7 year old Comprehension Screens includes a picture scene with related questions.
  • 8-9 year old Comprehension Screen includes a short story and related questions.
  • Examples of adequate and inadequate responses are provided for each question.

After implementing the PLD comprehension questions program for two terms, the presentation of the relevant screen is recommended. For the students with low language ability and additional end of year screen is also recommended.
