PLD’s Year 1 Decodable Reading Books

PLD’s Year 1 Decodable Reading Books continue to support early readers in building strong, evidence-based reading skills. The Year 1 books comprise Sets 7-10 (90 books in total), and align to a typical Year 1 Teaching Sequence. 

• Set 7 completes the initial code, with single sounds, blends and initial vowel and consonant digraphs. 
• Sets 8 – 10 move into the extended code and include vowel and consonant digraphs.

This extended code series supports beginning readers as they continue their reading journey, providing a mixture of age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction texts and progressing to a higher word count and multiple lines of text, as the ability to decode becomes more fluid. 

These books also promote rich vocabulary and oral language development. Every book finishes by introducing new vocabulary and facilitates rich oral language development through asking progressive comprehension questions both before and after reading.

In catering for the range within classrooms, PLD also offers Foundation to Year 1 Decodable Book Bundles. Structured with between 20-30 books in each Set, covering both fiction and non-fiction topics, children can complete a level with a variety of books available to keep their reading fun and interesting.

Each fiction book showcases beautiful photography from a location in Australia, along with facts and information about that area. Non-fiction books cover relevant topics of interest to children at this level including football, history and travel.
