Getting Started with PLD

The first step is to select the PLD classroom programs your school will implement. For most schools, we recommend our Integrated SSP Kits, as they are our most comprehensive classroom solution, combining ready-made Daily Reviews, print and digital resources and relevant catch-up programs.

Once you have selected the programs required for the school, complete our online quote request form and tell us about your school’s requirements.

Once your quote has been prepared, you’ll receive a link to schedule a discussion with Diana Rigg, PLD’s Founder. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions and make any adjustments to your quote before proceeding.

Decide what form your PLD training or professional learning will take.

Online training & follow-up coaching (hybrid model)

Many schools choose to complete PLD’s online professional learning courses. The courses consist of recorded sessions divided into 4-6 videos and take approximately 3-3.5 hours to complete. Online training can be completed individually or viewed as a group. Completing the training together provides an opportunity for teaching and support staff to discuss the content, ask questions and consider how PLD’s SSP programs will be implemented within your school.

Following the completion of the Online Courses, coaching sessions are scheduled to address any remaining questions and to refine understanding.

Presenter-led training

You can also arrange for a PLD presenter to deliver training to your staff. This provides an opportunity for your team to learn together, ask questions and discuss how PLD’s SSP programs will be implemented within your school.

PLD can be introduced at any time during the school year. Where possible, we recommend launching PLD on a pupil-free day, either at the beginning or end of the school year.

A pupil-free day provides dedicated time for your team to learn together, familiarise themselves with the programs and prepare for implementation. It also allows time to process the student placement information needed to support the start of the new school year.

Select the commencement period that best suits your school to access the relevant guides for launching PLD’s SSP programs.

Before booking your training, there are three important things to prepare:

a) Have your PLD programs accessible within the school during the training

Your classroom programs and professional learning are designed to work together. Having the programs in your school before your training day allows teachers to connect what they learn directly to the resources they will use in their classrooms. 

To help schools prepare, PLD can forward-date program accounts, allowing resources or kits to be available for distribution and access before training.

b) Set up your tracking sheets 

PLD Tracking Sheets are used to record student screening, support program placement and monitor progress. Your school will need to register for the tracking sheets and have the relevant classes and student information set up before training.

c) Complete the recommended student screening

Student screening helps teachers identify the appropriate starting point for students and prepare for implementation.

If you are launching PLD on a pupil-free day, screening is recommended for students from the end of Foundation through to Year 5, with results provided to next year’s classroom teacher for students entering Years 1–6.

If you are launching PLD during a school term, complete the screening relevant to that term.

The required student samples should be collected before training but do not need to be marked. Marking and transferring results to the PLD tracking sheets are completed as part of the training day.

Access coaching and support

Once you’ve begun implementing PLD’s SSP programs, you can schedule a complimentary coaching session with the PLD team.

This is an opportunity to work through any remaining questions, discuss your experience of implementation and receive tailored advice to support your school’s literacy goals. Sessions can help refine your practice, address challenges and plan next steps giving your team greater confidence moving forward.

Each school is eligible for one complimentary coaching session per term.
