Over the past semester, six improvements have been introduced to My SSP Online. Some may already be familiar if you’ve logged in over recent weeks, while others may be new to you. This blog post highlights each of these updates.
Upgrade 1: A whole new design
The portal has also been reorganised to make navigation more intuitive:
- Frequently used documents are now located across the top.
- Term materials are displayed on the left-hand side.
- Catch-up programs are located on the right.
- Videos are grouped along the bottom.
Note: Years 1–6 and the Support Kit have now been updated to the new format. Only the Foundation Kit remains in the previous format, with its update scheduled for Term 3.
Upgrade 2: A new welcome video
A welcome video is now available in the top right-hand corner of the portal, providing an overview of the digital resources and how to navigate each section.
Note: The Years 2 to 6 videos are live. Foundation and Year 1 will be rolled out in Term 4.
Upgrade 3: Challenge Tasks for strong spellers
Below the Term 4 program materials, you will now find tasks for students who are achieving above the current stage. PLD recommends providing challenge tasks aligned with the current sequence, rather than creating additional groups and moving them up through the stages. Further information is available here.
Upgrade 4: Improved Daily Reviews
Throughout Semester 1, the Version 2 screen displays for Stage 1 and Stage 2 have been rolling out.
Note: The remaining Term 4 displays for Year 1, 2 and 3, along with their associated catch-up programs, will be uploaded within Term 3.
Upgrade 5: Improved navigation on digital displays
You can now hover over the concepts in the term displays and click straight through to the section you want.
Upgrade 6: Files open automatically in new tabs
Files now open automatically in new tabs, allowing you to set up displays for your three groups quickly and efficiently.
Upgrade 7: Real & Nonsense Words
The Year 1 Phonics Check aims to identify students who require targeted literacy support, and schools that require a stronger school-wide approach to structured synthetic phonics (SSP). To support this national screen, PLD has provided PLD’s Real and Nonsense Word Decoding Tasks to prime students for the annual screening and to provide additional blending and decoding practise. The following resources are being added to the Foundation and Year 1 SSP KITS as digital displays and are available individually through the PLD website.
- Term 1 & Term 2 Foundation and the Target 1 catch-up program in Year 1 Kit. Reading real and nonsense words set 1: CVC words
- Term 3 Foundation and the Target 2 catch-up program in Year 1 Kit. Reading real and nonsense words set 2: phonic concepts sh, ch, th, oo, ee and ck words
- Term 4 Foundation and the Target 3 catch-up program in Year 1 Kit. Reading real and nonsense words set 3: CCVC and CVCC words
- Stage 1 Target 4, Term 1 Year 1 Kit. Reading real and nonsense words set 4: phonic concepts ar, or, er, ay, ai, oi, oy, ing and all words
- Early Stage 2, Year 1 Term 2; coming soon
- Mid Stage 2, Year 1 Term 3; coming soon

We are also developing a system that will give school leaders access to the classroom kits, and relief teachers access to the digital resources, helping ensure continuity of learning when regular teachers are unavailable.
As part of this initiative, we are introducing a school management system that will allow schools to manage access to classroom kits. We will provide further updates on this rollout as we get closer to completion.
There is a great deal of ongoing development of the MY SSP Portal and its associated digital resources. We welcome your feedback and suggestions as we continue to enhance the platform. Please send your comments and ideas to [email protected].
