The Foundation school year is one of the most important years of schooling. It is within this year that students learn to read, spell and write. The school year commences with the explicit instruction of pre-literacy skills (such as phonemic awareness and alphabet sounds) before a structured introduction of early reading, spelling and writing occurs. In addition, throughout the year, students receive targeted oral language and fine and gross motor skill development. Here are PLD’s evidence-based programs, screening tools, professional learning and parent information downloads to help your students achieve a positive start to this critical school year.
