printPLD is designed to align with the Australian Curriculum. Queensland, like all other states and territories, uses the Australian Curriculum as the foundation for its own teaching and learning guidance. This means that a program aligning with the Australian Curriculum will, by design, have strong alignment with Queensland’s requirements too.
The Literacy Hub is not the Queensland curriculum. It is a resource developed to support schools in implementing the Australian Curriculum, and it draws on the Australian Curriculum’s own language and expectations. Because the Australian Curriculum uses intentionally broad language, such as references to CVC words or multisyllabic words rather than specifying exact phonics concepts or sequences, there is genuine flexibility in how schools can meet those standards. This means multiple programs can align with the curriculum while looking quite different in structure and sequence.
A good example of this is the Spelling and Morphology Spine, which also aligns to the Australian Curriculum but is a separate resource from the Literacy Hub’s phonics progression. Even within Queensland, you can see multiple approaches being used to interpret and teach to the same curriculum expectations. This is entirely appropriate, and it reflects the way the Australian Curriculum is designed to work.
PLD sits within that same framework. Its alignment documentation demonstrates how PLD maps to the Australian Curriculum across states. The fact that PLD was developed in WA does not mean it only aligns to WA. The Australian Curriculum is a national document, and PLD’s alignment is to that national framework. In summary: the Literacy Hub is one way to interpret and resource the Australian Curriculum. PLD is another. Both are valid approaches, and both share high degrees of compatibility in striving to meet curriculum expectations.
