2026 Tracking Sheets for Monitoring Student Progress
Tracking and mapping student progress each term is central to PLD’s Structured Synthetic Phonics (SSP) teaching and learning cycle. Termly assessments for all students, from the Early Years through to Year 6, are efficiently recorded in PLD’s Digital Tracking Sheets.
PLD’s Tracking Sheets combine results from paper-based assessments into one cloud-based document, providing a clear overview of each individual student’s PLD Stage of Development in every classroom across the school. The tracking sheets not only record growth but also help school leaders manage PLD’s implementation across the school.
! PLD recommends downloading NEW tracking sheets at the beginning of each school year and avoiding using older versions.
Navigate to the relevant sections using the tabs below:
PLD does NOT email out the tracking sheets. Schools must register using the form below, after which a secure download link is automatically provided via email. At the start of each new academic year, schools must download the latest version of the Tracking Sheets and set them up for the year ahead.
PLD emphasises the importance of using tracking sheets to support a well-organised and successful implementation of PLD’s SSP programs. The tracking sheets link the termly Spelling Placement Screens to the Teaching Sequence Manuals. Each term, student progress is assessed, and results are entered as a percentage into the tracking sheets, which is then used to form three targeted teaching groups. This process supports the creation of an implementation plan for the term ahead.
It is essential that teachers have followed the ‘Six Steps’ outlined in each of the Screening & Tracking Manuals, which guide users on how to administer the placement tests, input student results, highlight, organise the data and communicate a clear plan for the term ahead. To support this process, we have created a series of helpful Tracking Sheet Tutorial Videos on how to use the PLD Tracking Sheets with fidelity to ensure more accurate grouping and targeted instruction for improved student outcomes.
! Teachers must watch the Tracking Sheet Tutorial Videos BEFORE booking a complimentary coaching session. Coaching is designed to build upon this preparation, not replace it. PLD does not complete tracking for schools; teachers are expected to submit their tracking sheets to the best of their ability prior to tracking sheet support or coaching.
Please note: PLD reserves the right to cancel complimentary tracking sheet support bookings and ask educators to reschedule sessions if the instructions communicated in the tutorial videos have not been followed in full.
