PLD’s Alignment with International Curriculum
At PLD (Promoting Literacy Development), we are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based literacy programs that align with both Australian and international education standards. Our Structured Synthetic Phonics (SSP) approach is designed to support educators across diverse classroom contexts – including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and beyond.
A Comprehensive, Research-Based SSP Approach
Grounded in the Science of Reading, PLD’s SSP programs deliver positive outcomes across Literacy, Oral Language and Movement & Motor. Our holistic approach integrates education, speech pathology and occupational therapy to help every child aged 3 – 11, achieve their academic potential.
Our approach supports educators with:
- A structured scope and sequence that builds from simple to more complex phonics
- Systematic instruction that moves from initial code to extended code
- Regular progress monitoring to ensure students are developing essential skills
- Resources and support from the early years through to upper primary, enabling a consistent, whole-school literacy framework
Standards PLD’s Decodable
Reading Books
PLD’s phonics sequence is closely aligned with the New Zealand Ministry of Education’s Ready to Read Phonics Plus resource. This national scope and sequence sets out a clear plan for introducing initial code and elements of extended code during the first two years of schooling.
PLD complements and extends this structure by offering a practical, evidence-based approach that helps educators deliver high-impact instruction from the earliest stages of learning. Our resources help ensure that students meet foundational literacy milestones aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum.

Our programs are designed not only for Australian and New Zealand schools, but also for international schools adopting structured, research-informed literacy approaches. With PLD, educators receive:
- A globally recognised framework grounded in best practice
- Flexible resources adaptable to local curriculum requirements
- Tools and training that empower schools to drive measurable improvements in literacy outcomes

PLD Decodable Reading Books are designed for children being taught to read using SSP. These books present phonics and high-frequency words in a sequential order, enabling early readers to apply the phonics they are learning in the classroom to their reading practice. The books follow PLD’s teaching sequence but are also flexible enough to complement other SSP programs.
Please Note: Our organisation, PLD (Promoting Literacy Development), is based in Australia and operates independently. We are not connected to the Ministry of Education’s Professional Learning and Development (PLD) programs, despite the similarity in names.
