PLD’s Structured Synthetic Phonics Teaching Overviews
PLD's Structured Synthetic Phonics (SSP) Program is an evidence-based, comprehensive curriculum in Australia, closely aligned with the Science of Reading. The teaching sequence starts with the basics of the initial (simple) code and then progresses to the extended code.
For each primary school year level—Early Years, Foundation, Year 1 & 2 and Year 3, 4, 5 & 6—PLD provides downloadable teaching sequences along with companion screening and tracking manuals to support the implementation of all PLD programs.

The teaching overviews are designed for the group of students who are performing at age-appropriate levels and receiving broad-based classroom plans. However, PLD advocates for three targeted teaching groups, determined through termly spelling placement tests. Group 2 students, who are slightly behind their age-matched peers, and Group 3 students, who are significantly behind, require personalised teaching plans tailored to their level of operation.
