Spare Parts stands as Australiaโs most esteemed puppetry company. For over four decades, they have spread joy and wonder to audiences of all ages, weaving stories that resonate deeply with the human experience, through the art of puppetry.
PLD has committed to make annual donations to support Spare Parts’ 2024 regional schools tour. Our investment will directly support the costs to tour Spare Parts’ puppet theatre performances including artist wages, transportation, accommodation and workshop materials. Subsidising these costs makes it very affordable for schools to book puppet theatre performances.

PLD is proud to sponsor and support Spare Parts’ Regional Schools Tour in 2024. Spare Parts is taking their newest puppet performance, based on the cherished picture book, Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox, to schools in the Pilbara, Gascoyne, Goldfields, Wheatbelt, Southwest, and Great Southern regions.
It is one of Mem Foxโs most popular stories and treasured by generations of Australians. The story is a true celebration of intergenerational friendship that will bring laughter, inspire joy and leave ripples of connectedness with students long after the performance.
Tour dates for Wilfrid Gordan McDonald Partridge to regional schools are as follows:
– Gascoyne and Midwest: 22 April to 17 May
– Southwest, Great Southern and Goldfields-Esperance: 27 May to 27 June
– Wheatbelt: 15 to 19 July

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre’s touring program also includes outer metro schools. Booking can be made for the brand-new show Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, adapted from the book by Mem Fox.

What is the incursion experience?
Wilfrid Gordan McDonald Partridge is performed by two leading WA puppeteers. They tour with a portable set, beautifully crafted puppets, props and a pre-recorded soundtrack. The performance is 50 mins and can be performed in a variety of spaces within a school environment. Following the performance, students can ask puppeteers questions about the work, story and craft of puppetry. Schools can opt to book a hands-on puppet making workshop,delivered after the performance by our puppeteers.
What is the cost?
Performance: $6.50 per student
Sponsors such as PLD helps to subsidise the cost to make it affordable for schools.

Wilfrid Gordon McDonald is perfect for KindergartenโYear 7 and is also suitable for Years 7+ for students studying Drama or subjects related to the curriculum links listed below.
